This is a group invitation for discussion so we can work out the details of how to go about setting up a Affiliated Slackline Trainer Network. If you missed my Blog entry, check it out here: ASTN - Let's Make it Happen.

Basically, we have thousands of customers who might be interested in attending some workshops or clinics either for beginner basics, gear setup or for more advanced training or even group sessions for athletics. We want to make this happen so we're putting our support behind bringing people to their local slackers. In many areas there is interest enough to charge admission, others it might be volunteer only - this determination would be up to the trainer. I know there's a demand, my flooded email inbox tells me that.

So, who's interested? What type of logistics do we need to address? It should be a fun way to make a few bucks and still help promote the sport.

Skill level you would need to be capable of walking the line confidently and performing basic level tricks such as turning, bouncing, some surfing and such. It's more of a requirement to be knowledgable about how to get someone else started slacking and have enough background to answer their questions.

I don't really think there should be a minimum age but anyone who wants to be a trainer should have transportation to their chosen location, be good with working with people and have a professional enough attitude to be for their time as an instructor. The trainers would also be responsible for ensuring the safety of their clients so that would be considered in the process.

I'm looking to start something in Philadelphia, and at the NJ shore.  I work downtown everyday, and I am typically in Stone Harbor NJ on the weekend.  I am open to considering what nights would get the best attendance, but I have prior commitments Friday, and Wednesday.  My wife will also have some input into what nights I am available.  Being that I am 39 with 2 kids, "nights" for me means from 5:30 to 7:00.  I can also make myself available on Saturdays or Sundays at the beach as well.

Sounds good. Please email me with your contact info at: joe@slacklineexpress.com and I'll contact you back with our trainer info and I can get you listed on our workshops at: http://www.slacklineexpress.com/workshops.htm

Hey Joe,

My name is Marc Dillon. I met you at the Lander International Climber's Festival (I was the one that won the slackline competition).

I am interested in possibly becoming a slackline trainer.

Right now I am mainly attempting to get a slackline clinic set up for Rocktoberfest (via the RRGCC) at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky.

Any help and information will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc Dillon

Marc,

Hey, good to hear from you. I'd be glad to help you get started. What type of deal were you looking to get arranged? Are you looking to get paid for your time or just volunteer in the local park to teach slacklining?

Either way, email me your contact info and I can post it on our trainers network and then send you some of the curriculum info. I know you can certainly slack, but the curriculum stuff can help speed up the teaching process. We've had excellent luck getting a lot of people walking fairly quickly.

Have you contacted RRGCC organizers yet?

Joe,

I sent you an email within a day of your last post to this forum topic. I have not received a response from you. Did you get this email? Should I send it again? Coincidentally I haven't gotten a response from the RRGCC folks either.

Thanks,
Marc
